Community Planning - FAQ
Q: What is the City's population and square miles?
A: Annually the Planning Division coordinates with the Bureau of Economic and Business Research at the University of Florida regarding population estimates and methodology for the City of Pinellas Park. The Planning Division works with the Economic Development Division to determine the area of the City, including new annexations, in square miles. As of April 1, 2004, the population is estimated at 47,572 residents. The City is 15.70 square miles, based on annexation data collected from 1950 through June 2003.
Q: How do I get sidewalks on my street?
A: The Planning Division annually develops a sidewalk improvement program. On an annual basis, $90,000 is put aside in the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) for sidewalk improvements. The City's goal is to have sidewalks installed on at least one side of every street within the city limits, beginning with our residential neighborhoods. To keep costs down, annual sidewalk projects are concentrated in a specific geographic area of the City. This method allows the contractor to remain in the same general area for the duration of the construction period, thus the City is able to get more sidewalks installed for the investment. Installation of concrete sidewalks along City streets are completed with a minimum of inconvenience to residents. For further information about the sidewalk program or to make a suggestion about an area of the City in need of sidewalks, please contact the Planning Division at (727) 541-0704. For further information concerning construction, please contact Engineering Services at (727) 541-0754.
