Fire Department - Public Education - Poison Control - Checklist For A Poison-Proof Home
  • Keep all household medicines, cleaning products, poisons in their original, labeled, child resistant containers.
  • Keep poisons and medicines locked up and out of the reach and sight of small children.
Be as careful with non-prescription medicines as you are with prescription medicines. They are just as harmful to young children.
  • Keep purses and diaper bags out of the reach of children.
  • Never walk away from or leave children alone with household products or medicines. Most poisonings occur when the product is being used.
  • Return medicines, household and chemical products to safe storage immediately after each use.
  • Know which plants inside and outside of your home can be poisonous to young children.
  • Teach your children about poisonous substances.
  • Keep the number of your poison control center near or on your telephone.
