Accidental Death Elderly Man Dies in Ditch

On Monday, January 09, 2006 at 6:26 a.m. patrol officers responded the Gateway Villa's apartments at 2901 Gandy Boulevard regarding a missing elderly man.  The man, Luther Catimus Wilson, age 84 of 8580 29 Way North in Gateway Villa's, was last seen at approximately 3:00 a.m. where he lived, in his son's apartment.  Mr. Wilson is reported to suffer from dementia and apparently wandered from the residence.  Mr. Wilson's son, Darrell Wilson, age 58, called the police department when he noticed his father missing.

Officers checking the area found Luther Wilson face down in a ditch on the east side of the property.  The ditch was approximately ten feet deep and had about 24 inches of water in it.  The officers immediately pulled Luther Wilson from the water and checked for vital signs finding none. It was apparent that Luther Wilson had been there for more than a brief period of time.

Detectives were called to further investigate the death which is being called as accidental pending the autopsy results.
