PINELLAS PARK POLICE DEPARTMENT

Escapee Recaptured by Pinellas Park Police Detectives

Location: 5300 Block of W. Pine Street - Unincorporated Pinellas County

Suspect: Allen J. Haggerty W/M, D.O.B. 06/25/1961, 5310 W. Pine St., St. Petersburg, FL 33709

Original Charges: Dealing in Stolen Property, Grand Theft, Escape

Additional Charges: Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Details:

Haggerty escaped from police custody at approximately 4:03 p.m. on 05/01/08. Haggerty was being evaluated by Northside Hospital staff for an injury he reported having sustained on 04/30/08, prior to police contact. Despite an extensive search by police service dogs and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit, Haggerty was not located.

Earlier today, Pinellas Park detectives received a tip on the possible whereabouts of Haggerty. Detectives established surveillance at a residence located at 5310 W. Pine Street in unincorporated Pinellas County. Haggerty was observed exiting the residence and after a brief struggle, he was taken into custody. Haggerty was in possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia at the time of his arrest. Further investigation revealed that Haggerty resides in the home where he was located.

Haggerty has been booked into the Pinellas County Jail.

The Pinellas Park Police Department extends its appreciation to the media for their assistance in this case. Media reports directly led to the tip which resulted in this apprehension.
