Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting

 

On Saturday, May 12, 2007, at approximately 1:14 a.m. patrol units responded to 5121 97 Terrace North regarding a shooting.  The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene, by the responding paramedics, in the carport of her residence.  She has been identified as Amy Alice Norris, a 24 year-old female.  The medical examiner's office determined that Norris was approximately 12-16 week pregnant at the time of her death.

 

Neighbors reported an argument in front of the residence between Norris and another subject just prior to the shooting.  Several other people were present at the time as well.  When the shooting occurred, all persons present fled the scene leaving in at least two different cars

 

Investigators worked throughout the day attempting to identify the persons present at the scene of the shooting.  At least one of those persons came forward and all subjects were identified.

 

Through those interviews and evidence obtained, the shooter was identified as:

Watts is the brother of Benjamin Watts.  Benjamin Watts is allegedly the father of the child Norris was carrying and he was present at the time of the shooting.  The shooting is said to have occurred as the result of an argument between Norris and Benjamin Watts that had started earlier in the day.

 

Bruce Watts was taken into custody without incident at approximately 6:00 p.m. at 5634 22nd Street South, St. Petersburg.  St. Petersburg Police detectives assisted in the investigation and in the arrest of Bruce Watts.  He was transported to the Pinellas Park Police Department where he cooperated with detectives in giving a statement and admitting to this crime.

 

Bruce Watts has been charged with First Degree Homicide and is being held at the Pinellas County Jail with no bond.
