Pinellas Park Police Department - Criminal Investigation Section

| The Criminal Investigations Section, (C.I.S.) is responsible for conducting secondary investigations to felony crimes committed in Pinellas Park. Cases are assigned to detectives based on solvability factors and the seriousness of the crime. The unit is comprised of one Sergeant, seven Detectives, and one Senior Administrative Clerk. The section is divided into twounits: Crimes Against Persons: Robberies, Homicides, Sexual Batteries, Aggravated Assault/Battery, Child Abuse, Crimes Against Property: Burglaries, Grand Thefts Economic Crimes Fraud, Embezzlement, Identity Theft, Vehicle Theft. |

In 2007 the Section received 2,004 cases for review. 492 of those were assigned for further investigation and 1,512 were assigned as a no-lead case. No-lead cases are given to a specific detective based on the type of case. The victims are contacted by phone or mail and advised of the status of the case and asked if they have any additional information. If and when additional information is received and the case requires additional investigation, the status can be upgraded to "Assigned." In 2007, the section had a 81% closure rate on assigned cases.
