ANNEXATION HISTORY - The City of Pinellas Park has continued to grow steadily over the past decade in terms of both population and size. The City expanded from 7.41 square miles in 1950 to 15.65 square miles in 2003 as a result of annexations. All annexations have been voluntary, indicating that Pinellas Park is a desirable location for both residents and businesses.

COMMUNITY CHARACTERISTICS - The City's population also grew from 2,924 persons in 1950 to 22,287 in 1970, a 662% increase in population. The 2000 US Census reported 45,658 persons, an increase of 104% over the 1970 population and 1,461% increase over 1950. By 2003, the City's population was estimated at 46,560.
Pinellas County's population has historically been composed of tourists and the elderly who come to Florida for its mild climate and white sandy beaches. In contrast, Pinellas Park is a younger, family oriented, middle-class community. According to the 2000 US Census, the median age of the Pinellas Park resident is 40.2 years, compared to Pinellas County's median age of about 43.0 years. Approximately 52% of the City's population is female and 48% male.
