1-6-2010

Wednesday, January 6th, at approximately 10:30 PM, a Pinellas Park Police officer was rear-ended while stopped in the 6500 block of Bryan Dairy Road.  The vehicle that struck the cruiser, a Jeep Cherokee, immediately left the scene, fleeing Eastbound on Bryan Dairy Road.  The officer, Bradley Serata, was shaken up and his car was disabled so he was not able to give chase.  Other responding units located the Jeep under the overpass at US19 / Bryan Dairy, where it had crashed into a concrete bridge support.  The driver had fled the vehicle.  Witnesses directed police to a residential area nearby where they saw the suspect flee.  The suspect, Steven Jason Roberts (2-17-1982) was located by police hiding on a second story porch at a residence.  He was taken into custody without incident.  He was transported to Bayfront Hospital for trauma injuries sustained in the crashes.  Officer Serata was taken to Northside Hospital and later released.  Steven Roberts faces numerous traffic charges including DUI, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, driving while license is suspended, probation violations, and burglary.
