Arrest of Felony Suspects
February 9th, 2011
Time: 9:30 PM
Location/ 6450 78th Avenue North Pinellas Park
Wednesday evening, police conducted an operation to take into custody three persons suspected in the severe beating of two victims. Wanted for armed robbery, assault with a firearm, aggravated battery and kidnapping were Andrew Sweitzer, Jeremy Spotts and an accomplice, Jamie Severino. Police tracked Andrew Sweitzer to an apartment located at 6450 78th Avenue North. At approximately 9:30 PM, Sweitzer exited the apartment and was immediately challenged by police officers to surrender. Sweitzer failed to comply with officers orders and tried to retreat back to the apartment. A police dog was released, biting the suspect in the shoulder before he could get back inside, forcing Sweitzer to the ground. The suspect was reaching for a .45 cal handgun hidden in his pants as he was taken to the ground by the police dog. The gun was knocked loose and landed on the ground. Sweitzer was arrested and secured with minor injuries to his shoulder. Police also found Jamie Severino in the apartment and she was taken into custody.
The third suspect sought, Jeremy Thomas Spotts (W/M 2/16/1989), was not in the apartment. He is still at large, is wanted by police and should be considered dangerous.
Sweitzer is being charged with the kidnapping, robbery and beating of Jeremy Medeiros (4/22/1990 W/M) on February 5th, 2011, and the beating of Darrel Delaney (1/10/1987 W/M) on December 11th, 2010. In both cases, Andrew Sweitzer, who is a known acquaintance of the victims, attacked both victims using a hard object placed into a sock, swinging the sock to strike and cause injury to the face, head and body. In the December case, it is believed to be a rock that was in the sock. In the February case, it was a padlock in the sock. Sweitzer also pointed a handgun at Jeremy Medeiros as he was being robbed while inside Sweitzer's apartment at 6149 72 Avenue North #C. Darrel Delaney was beaten as he stood in a parking lot of a convenience store located at 6328 Park Blvd.
In the December 11th incident, Darrel Delaney was at the food mart, 6328 Park Bl, and saw Sweitzer in the parking lot. Delaney approached Sweitzer to talk to him. After a brief conversation, Sweitzer attacked Delaney with the "rock in the sock" weapon, and then fled.
In the February 5th incident, Jeremy Medeiros went to Sweitzer's and Spott's apartment (whom he considered to be friends with) to hang out. Once inside he was locked in and attacked by Sweitzer with the "lock in the sock" weapon. Spotts grabbed Medeiros by the hair and punched him in the face while Sweitzers girlfriend, Jamie Severino watched. Sweitzer and Spotts demanded Mederios wallet and tried to take it from him as Sweitzer pointed a handgun at Mederios threatening to kill him. Mederios tossed his wallet to the ground and escaped by crashing through a front glass window and running to a neighboring house for help. All three suspects had fled the apartment before police arrival.
Jamie Severino is being charged with domestic battery stemming from an incident that occurred on February 8th, 2011 at 6701 Bryan Dairy Rd. Jamie got involved in an argument with her mother Lisa Bearse, Lisa told Jamie and her boyfriend Andrew Sweitzer to leave. Jamie attacked her mother Lisa, punching her in the face several times with keys in her hand, causing facial lacerations. Jamie also tried to prevent her mother from calling 911 to report the attack by grabbing the phone from her mother and tossing it.
