Case # 2010-6573

Pedestrian Struck and Killed by SUV

At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010, emergency units responded to Park Boulevard and 52nd Street for a crash involving an SUV and a pedestrian.  The pedestrian, 67 year old Ronald Paul Segars of St. Petersburg, suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to Northside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mr. Segars appeared to be walking south across Park Boulevard, west of the actual intersection, when he was struck by a Silver 2003 Ford Escape.  The Ford was driven by Joanne C. Luce, 39, of St. Petersburg.  Mrs. Luce was not injured in the crash and she pulled her SUV into a nearby parking lot immediately after the crash.

Witnesses called in the incident and attempted to render aid to the pedestrian until emergency personnel arrived on scene.

Traffic homicide investigators are conducting the investigation.  The roadway, which was partially closed for 2 and a half hours, is now open.

The investigators will determine the appropriateness of any enforcement action at the completion of their investigation.

Released by: Lieutenant Paul Andrews, PIO.
