Suspicious Item Leads to Bomb Squad Response

 

On Saturday, March 26, 2011, at approximately 1:25 p.m., patrol officers responded to 11141 US 19 in reference to a suspicious item in a parking lot. Upon arrival, officers located a small personal safe in the parking lot of a retail shopping complex. Due to the suspicious circumstances and unusual location of the safe, businesses located in close proximity were evacuated and the parking lot closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The Tampa Police Department Bomb Squad was requested to respond. Upon their arrival, the bomb squad utilized a remote control robot to safely examine the contents of the safe which were found not to be a threat.
