Report # 2008-17850

Fatal Crash Closes Northbound Belcher Road

Patrol officers investigated a serious crash on Belcher Road at 78 Avenue North.  At approximately 3:10 p.m., officers and firefighters responded to a crash involving two vehicles, including one that rolled over.  Two occupants were trapped and had to be extricated.

A red 1994 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Aaron Allen,  was north on Belcher Road, when a gold 2004 Dodge Intrepid, driven by Marvin Cook, was south on Belcher Road, and attempting to turn left and go east on 78th Avenue. This caused the front of the Tahoe to strike the passenger side of the Intrepid.  The impact caused the Blazer to rollover and the Intrepid to come to rest against a curb.  The drivers were able to exit the vehicles, but both passengers had to be extricated by firefighters.  The extrication process took approximately 30 minutes.

The road was closed for just under two hours and northbound Belcher Road traffic was diverted onto 78th Avenue.

All four occupants involved in the crash were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The persons involved are:

1994 Red Chevy Blazer
Aaron Allen, driver, Age 22, of Pinellas Park
Heather Allen, passenger, Age 25, of Pinellas Park

2004 Gold Dodge Intrepid
Marvin Cook, driver, Age 85, of Largo
Gisela Gordon, passenger, Age 80, of Largo

Mr. Cook was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic when making a left turn.

The passenger in the Dodge Intrepid, 79 year old Gisela Gordon, has died unexpectedly at the hospital just after 9 p.m.

Traffic homicide investigators are now examining the incident.
