Man Electrocuted in RV Park

Case 2008-20868

Pinellas Park Police and Pinellas Park Fire Department responded to a report of an electrocution at the Travel World RV Park, 12400 US 19 N.  The man was a handyman working on a water heater at lot #1120.  It appeared he had unplugged the power cord leading to the trailer to work on the water heater and was in the process of plugging the trailer back into the outside power box when he was electrocuted.  A neighbor saw the man working on the water heater about 11:00 AM.  About 2:00 PM it was raining and the same neighbor saw the man's truck open and all of his tools getting wet so he went to look for the man and found him slumped over the power box.  The witness notified the manager who turned off all the power to that area but when they checked on the man, he was already dead.  Fire officials confirmed the death at 2:15 PM.  All indications are this was an accidental death.  It is undetermined at this time if there were any faults, shorts or problems with the electrical cord or power box the man was handling at the time of the accident.

The victim is 50 years old and has lived in the park working as a handyman for several years.  The identity of the man is being withheld at this time until his next of kin, who are out of state, have been notified.
