Crash Investigation – Fatality

66 th Street North / 11500 Block SouthBound

A 2004 Honda mini-van was southbound 66 Street, center lane.  A pedestrian attempted to cross the street in front of the vehicle.  The pedestrian did not cross at a cross walk.  The pedestrian was struck by the left front corner of the vehicle.  The vehicle was traveling at an estimated speed of 45 mph.  The driver of the van tried to avoid the pedestrian but was unable to avoid the collision.  The pedestrian was seriously injured and was taken to Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg.  The pedestrian died at the hospital a short time after arriving.  The driver of the van was slightly injured and treated at the scene.  No charges were filed.
