Mother Arrested for Leaving 22 Month Old Unattended

On Thursday, December 15, 2011, at approximately 1:55pm, officers responded to an office complex located at 8800 49th Street regarding a child left unattended inside of a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers located a 22 month old female inside of a 2004 Jeep 4x4. The vehicle windows were rolled up but the doors were unlocked and officers were able to access the child. The child was not in distress and appeared unharmed.

Officers were able to locate the child’s mother, Heather Chapman, age 33, inside of an office in the complex. It was determined that Chapman had left the child unattended inside of the vehicle at approximately 12:00pm so that she could attend a job training class. The child had been left unattended for nearly 2 hours.

Chapman was arrested for Child Neglect and transported to the Pinellas County Jail. The child was transferred into the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services.
