Officer Steve Vangeli was selected as the 2011 Pinellas Park Police Department Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Officer Vangeli has been with the department since 2001 and is currently assigned to the Community Redevelopment Policing Unit as the Agency's Homless Outreach Officer. Officer Vangeli is also a Field Training Officer. Officer Vangeli makes contact with those who are homeless and in need of assistance and transport them to a safe shelter, giving them a chance to establish themselves, receive treatment if needed, and assist them with social services. Officer Vangeli has been working with people who are veterans, young in age, retirees, and families since 2007 and is called upon daily to assist with placements into shelters.
