Teen Shot During Altercation
On Sunday, June 29, 2008, at 3:02 a.m., patrol officers responded to a report of multiple gunshots in the area of the 7300 block of U.S. 19. Officers checked and interviewed persons in the area, and found no signs of a shooting. One witness said he saw some juveniles setting off fireworks.
At 3:51 a.m., the police department was contacted by a local hospital reporting a patient who suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. The patient reported being in a confrontation with other young men in the area of 74 Avenue and 35th Way when he was shot. His brother was present with him and transported him to the hospital.
The victim was able to direct officers to a specific area and evidence was recovered. The initial investigation has revealed that the shooting appears to have stemmed from an altercation earlier in the night. The identity of the shooter is not yet known.
The victim has been identified as Errick Pholone Lovan, 18, of Kenneth City. He has undergone surgery and is expected to recover.
