Location: US19 and Mainlands Blvd.

Victim: JUNE SIMKINS (age 71) St. Petersburg

June Simkins was driving her 1991 Honda southbound on US 19 and had stopped for a red light at the intersection of Mainlands Blvd. Simkin's vehicle was struck from behind by a 2002 Cadillac driven by Arthur Vandomo (age 85) of St. Petersburg. The impact caused Simkin's vehicle to spin into the median lane of US 19 and came to a rest. Simkin's vehicle was then struck by a Southbound US 19, 2004 Saturn driven by Charles Lewis (age 46) of St. Petersburg. The front of the Saturn struck the Drivers door of the Honda. Simkins died after being struck by the second vehicle. A passenger in Simkin's vehicle was also injured when he exited the Honda after the first crash to check on the driver of the Cadillac. The passenger was standing near the vicinity of the Honda when the Saturn crashed into it. The passenger was struck by one of the two vehicles after impact causing serious injury to the passenger.

Charges have not yet been filed. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
