The Criminal Investigations Section, (C.I.S.) is responsible for conducting secondary investigations to felony crimes committed in Pinellas Park. Cases are assigned to detectives based on solvability factors and the seriousness of the crime. The unit is comprised of one Sergeant, Six Detectives, and one Administrative Clerk. The section is divided into two units: Crimes against Persons: Robberies, Homicides, Sexual Batteries, Aggravated Assault/Battery, Child Abuse, Crimes against Property: Burglaries, Grand Thefts, Economic Crimes, Fraud, Embezzlement, Identity Theft, and Vehicle Theft.

DetectivesIn 2010 the Section received 1,926 cases for review. 428 of those were assigned for further investigation and 1,498 were assigned as a no-lead case. No-lead cases are given to a specific detective based on the type of case. The victims are contacted by phone or mail and advised of the status of the case and asked if they have any additional information. If and when additional information is received and the case requires additional investigation, the status can be upgraded to "Assigned." In 2010, the section had a 76% closure rate on assigned cases.
