Vehicle v. Pedestrian Crash 5-11-19

On 03/11/2019 at approximately 0630, a 2001 White Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling North in the curb lane in the 6700 block of US 19 approaching 70th Ave N. The pedestrian was crossing US 19 from West to East. The pedestrian cleared all southbound lanes of travel and the raised median. The pedestrian then began to cross northbound lanes when he was struck by the Jeep. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced on scene. The driver of the Jeep remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in this crash. Weather (Heavy Fog) is considered a factor. No charges or citations are pending. The pedestrian failed to use a crosswalk that was one block south of his location. Additionally, the deceased was issued a citation by this department in November for failing to use a crosswalk. ***NOK notification has been made to an out of state relative.***** Vehicle #1: 2001 White Jeep Grand Cherokee Driver - Glenn Walker 57, Port Richey FL Pedestrian: (Deceased) - William Folsom 71, Transient **Original Release** Officers and traffic homicide investigators are on the scene of a traffic fatality. This is a vehicle v. pedestrian crash in the 6600 block of US 19 northbound. All northbound lanes of traffic are closed between 6400 and 7000 blocks of US 19. The road is expected to be closed for several hours. We will provide an update when we learn more.
