TITLE: Crash with Serious Injury

WHERE: 62nd Ave N / 39th St N
WHO: Jared Hernandez 33, St. Petersburg (Motor Scooter) / Danea Coleman 27,
St. Petersburg (Nissan Maxima)
This is an update to the initial post regarding a traffic crash investigation
earlier this morning at 62nd Ave and 39th ST N. Through investigation,
officers determined a crash occurred between a motor scooter and a vehicle.
The rider of the motor scooter, Jared Hernandez, sustained severe injuries and
was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in serious condition.
At the time of the crash, a helmet was located on scene but unknown if Jared
Hernandez was wearing it.
The crash occurred when the driver of the Nissan sedan, Danea Coleman, made a
left turn from eastbound 62nd Ave to travel north on 39th St. As a result of
the turn, Danea Coleman violated the right of way of Jared Hernandez, who
struck the side of the vehicle. Speed or impairment are not factors in this
crash. Danea Coleman has been issued a citation for the violation.
The roadway was closed for several hours to complete the investigation but has
since resumed normal traffic flow.
No further updates are expected regarding this crash.

TRAFFIC ALERT- All of 62nd Ave is closed at 39th St. and no traffic can traverse the area. Please avoid the area.
On 10/13/2020, at approximately 0630 hours, officers responded to 62nd Ave and
39th St for a crash involving a sedan and moped. The rider of the moped
sustained severe injuries, and investigators are on scene at this time. All of
62nd Ave is currently closed and is expected to remain closed for several
hours. All vehicles are on the scene, and more information will be released
upon completion of the investigation.
We are asking traffic to find an alternate route and avoid the area.
