TITLE: Pinellas Park Police Arrest Male Driver for Fatal Hit and Run Crash

WHEN: Initial Crash - October 6th, 2021 at 8:00 PM

WHERE: US Highway 19 N at Mainlands Blvd

WHO:

ARRESTED - Derek Dious, 26 YOA W/M from Plant City

WHAT: On Friday, October 15th, investigators issued a warrant for the arrest
of Derek Dious for leaving the scene of a crash involving the death of Gary
Boisvert on October 6th.  Derek Dious turned himself into the Pinellas County
Jail at approximately 8:00 PM on October 15th and has been charged with one
count of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.  Derek Dious was
identified through investigative means as the driver of the 2018 Jeep Compass
that struck Gary Boisvert on US Highway 19 at Mainlands Blvd.

TITLE: Pinellas Park Police Investigate Fatal Hit and Run Crash

WHEN: October 6, 2021, at approximately 8:00 PM

WHERE: US Highway 19 N at Mainlands Blvd

WHO:

Deceased Pedestrian - Gary Boisvert, 63 YOA, Male from Pinellas Park

WHAT: At approximately 8:00 PM, officers responded to US Highway 19 N and
Mainlands Blvd for a crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian.  Once on scene,
officers located a male subject, Gary Boisvert, with life-threatening injuries
and he was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased.

The vehicle involved left the scene before the arrival of emergency personnel
and has not been located.  The vehicle is described as a white compact sedan
or hatchback with heavy front-end damage.

Investigators determined Gary Boisvert was crossing US Highway 19 N in the
crosswalk against the "Do Not Walk" signal. At the time, Gary Boisvert was
traveling in a wheelchair under his power.  The suspect vehicle was traveling
south on US Highway 19 and increased its speed as they approached a yellow
light at the intersection.  The suspect vehicle struck Gary Boisvert and the
wheelchair, then fleeing the scene without rendering any aid or notifying law
enforcement.

Over the last week, the Pinellas Park Police Department has investigated two
hit and run crashes involving serious injury or death.  As a reminder, we
encourage anyone involved in a traffic accident to remain on the scene and
immediately notify the appropriate law enforcement agency, required by Florida
state statute.

The second crash being investigated occurred on Sunday, October 3rd, 2021, at
approximately 7:00 AM at 34th St N and 62nd Ave.  The female pedestrian was
crossing in the crosswalk located at the intersection when she was struck by a
vehicle.   The pedestrian involved sustained life-threatening injuries and the
vehicle fled the scene.  The suspect vehicle for this case was described as a
gold car, possibly a Toyota.

We are asking the community to assist with identifying and locating the
vehicles and drivers involved in both cases.  If you have any information for

WHAT: At approximately 8:00 PM, officers responded to the intersection of US
Highway 19 N and Mainlands Blvd for a crash involving a vehicle and
pedestrian.  Officers located a male pedestrian at the incident location with
life-threatening injuries.  The male pedestrian was transported to a local
hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The vehicle involved fled the scene before law enforcement's arrival and has
been described as a white compact sedan or hatchback.  The suspect vehicle is
believed to have sustained heavy front-end damage from the collision.

Investigators are on scene and this investigation with continue throughout the
night.  More information will be released tomorrow upon the conclusion of the
initial investigation.

TRAFFIC ALERT- Southbound US Highway 19 N is closed at 49th St down to
Mainlands Blvd.  Drivers are asked to seek an alternate route.  The roadway is
expected to be closed for several hours.
