PPK Writers Group (Online)

Saturday, September 19, 2020

Ages 18+. Do you write short stories, novels, memoir, or poetry and want feedback on a work-in-progress? Then hop online with this group of enthusiastic writers. The goal of this group is to produce better drafts by giving and receiving constructive-but-encouraging feedback.

Currently this group meets online once a month via GoToMeetings.

Meetings begin at 10 am, but the group leader opens the meeting around 9:30 am. Please hop in a little early, especially if you're new or want feedback.

Click here to register for the meeting on September 19, 2020.

Note: You can dial in by phone if you don't have a computer or smartphone.

2020 Meeting Dates

  • September 19th
  • October 17th
  • November 14th
  • December TBD

General Guidelines

  • Attendees must be residents of the Tampa Bay area.
  • Newcomers are always welcome, but we ask that you sit in on one meeting before sharing your work. Newcomers are encouraged to give feedback, however.
  • Please log in at least five minutes before the start of the meeting, especially if you're new or want feedback.
  • We read short stories, novel excerpts, memoir, and poetry.
  • Work must be written for a general audience and contain little profanity, sex, drug use, or graphic violence (PG-13).

Feedback Procedure

At the start of the meeting, the group leader will take the names of everyone who has a story to share. The leader picks a name at random and that person becomes a Presenter so they can share their computer screen with the group. The reader gives an introduction to their story and tells everyone what kind of feedback they’re looking for, and then they get eight minutes to read an excerpt. After that, all attendees—newcomers included—are encouraged to say something constructive about the work. If we can’t get to everyone who wanted to share that day, then those people are given priority at the next meeting.

Mission Statement

The primary purpose of this group is to produce better drafts by sharing our work with the group and listening with an open mind to feedback. Please keep in mind that this is a give-and-take process, and your feedback to others is as important as sharing your own work.

The secondary purpose of this group is to create a strong community of local writers who motivate and help each other to achieve their writing goals. You are encouraged to share your email address with anyone whose work genuinely interests you or whose comments you find particularly helpful.

If you have any comments, suggestions, concerns, or questions, email AnnMarie or call 727-369-0667 and mention you’re calling about the writers group.
